Found serial videos on YouTube of a totally trumpet beginner, about his sort of weekly practice diary. Please read the note he put on with.
Ok, so I got this trumpet for the New Year (about a week ago. last friday, actually. December 28, 2007) and I have never played this kind of instrument before... On the first day I was very frustrated, because I just couldn`t produce any decent sound and felt so sorry I bought this piece of crap! But then things got better and something started to come out (of the trumpet)...
So, the "experiment" part of all this is that I want to teach myself how to play the trumpet without any formal lessons (mainly because I don`t know any trumpet teachers...) using mostly written material (I`ve found some on the internet, and youtube also helps a lot :)). The deadline for the experiment is half a year from now, meaning somewhere around June 28, 2008. At that time I am to post a video of me playing the trumpet at a concert in at least one song... And I don`t mean just producing random sounds, but rather playing melodies and improvising (more or less) freely. Meanwhile I`ll be posting short videos of me practicing around once a week or so - just to monitor the progress (or regress :))
I`m uploading this to keep me motivated during the learning process. So that I cannot just quit this :) If you have any useful suggestions or just random comments - I`ll be happy to read those! :)

I'm still trying top learn the trumpet. A couple of days ago I had a short lesson with my friend, who is actually a tuba player, but still she told me some useful stuff about breathing, embouchure and showed me some exercises.
Also I`m playing (trying to play, actually) all kinds of scales: chromatic, major, minor and this "jewish" scale, called "misheberah". (G,A,Bb,C#,D,E,F,(F#),G)

still learning how to play this thing... :)
When I think about trumpet, this is the first tune that comes to my mind. Don`t know why, but I just like it very much and I guess I`ll post another rendition of this tune when I learn to play it properly :)
it`s just scales - very easy to play :)
I just want to say, that when I play for myself, and not for the camera - it`s still a little bit better... :)
also two ow the valves (#1 and #3) sometimes (quite often, actually) get stuck, or just open VERY slowly. That`s why i can`t play almost any fast stuff... and that`s why i stick to the slow arrhythmic improvisations :)

today is exactly three weeks since i bought the trumpet and began to learn it :)
i was learning this tune just for a couple of hours prior to this recording... and i can`t play the second part yet. so i found this midi file on the internet and just left the first part two times. i kinda screwed up the second time, but it seemed rather funny to me, so i didn`t remove it...

My trumpet is away for repairment for a couple of days, but a friend of mine gave me this valve trombone! At some points it`s even easier to play then the trumpet, but it`s a little bit out of tune as you`ll be able to hear...
Also I decided to record myself playing the tin whistle - I`m not a pro at it either, i`ve just been playing it for about half a year. So I screwed up the tin whistle part a bit... sorry 4 that :)

Although i didn`t post anything lately, my trumpet learning experience still continues. This video was filmed TWO months ago, so exactly ONE month after i started learning this thing. I hope i play a little bit better now, and soon i think i`ll post something to prove that :)
I guess most people are supposed to be as surprised as I was when saw the guy's progress.
As an ADULT, spent limited time to learn a brass such hard to play like trumpet, and without any professional tutorial, very impressive.
Although it ended in a suspension(no more posts about this then), kind sorry, but thru the videos we realized the WILL is always ultimately the very key to the goal.
Good for ones who have been striving for your promising life.
For those haven't yet, the great future is just waiting for your pursuing, pretty fair.
I should spend more time with my mouthpiece then ...... : )
ps.I clarified this post to [life] catalog was because of the meaning we talked about. However, he could be a model for me and most company around me in fact.
